Continuing with the original piece of music you selected in your CU1 M1 Competency Assessment:

1. Describe the rhythmic and and pitch qualities

a. What would you say is the tempo of the work? (andante, presto, largo, etc....)

b. Can you tell which voice or instrument is playing the melody?

i. If so, who/what has the melody?

c. What is the melodic range?

i. Is it wide or small? Does the voice/instrument go really high to really low or does it stay in a small range?

d. Is the melodic character smooth or disjunct?

e. Do you think the song/melody is in major or minor?

2. Choose a different piece of music you think has a great melody or great rhythm. Using vocabulary you learned in this Module, describe why you think the melody or rhythm is great.
